✨ Tattoos and scars ✨

Most of us collected some sort of scars in our lifetime, but whether we like to look at them or not is a personal choice/preference.
For folks who want to make their scars less noticeable, covering/ camouflaging them can be an option.
It is important to note that scars will not disappear after getting a tattoo over them, but rather a clever design can disguise them.

Most tattoos can be covered up with tattoos, however the exact details depend heavily on the scars themselves.

It is recommended to wait at least 1-2 years before tattooing over a scar to make sure it is properly healed.
The time frame depends on the scar of course, but a good rule of thumb is that it should be faded close to your skin tone or lighter in color.

Generally speaking organic, free flowing designs are more flattering and are more advisable to use as a cover up.
Incorporating subject matters that can be easily adapted (eg. flowers, leaves, animals) yields a more flattering design and better camouflage.
It is better to avoid a lot of solid single colors, geometric or overy detailed elements right on the scars themselves, as they can actually bring more attention to it.

It it’s important to choose and artist who is experienced and comfortable performing this type of work. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure they have examples for this in their portfolio, both fresh and healed.

Tattoo cover ups in general are not my favorite things to do, however most of my clients (and hopefully future clients) know that I rarely ever say no to a scar cover up and always will try to incorporate it in your design if this is something you are looking for.
This is something I feel strongly about and always happy and proud to offer to y’all.

🌞 Tattoos and sun protection 🌞

Protecting your tattoos from the sun is crucial to maintaining their vibrancy and longevity. Ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause tattoos to fade, blur, and lose their sharpness over time.

It is especially important to maintain good pretective habits in the first year of wearig your tattoo. While your skin appears healed a couple of weeks after the session, it will take anywhere between 9-12 months to have the same quality it had before the tattoo (essentially you’ll have sensitive baby skin for a while) How long your tattoo will stay sharp and vibrant depends on many factors, one is sun exposure. The UV rays break fown the pigment molecules in your skin to smaller particles, so your body can flush it out easier.
Color pigments in general have smaller molecular structure than black, which means those colors *can fade faster.

(please note I am strictly talking about this from the molecular structure standpoint, not factoring in how the tattoo was designed and executed) In the US, the FDA regulates suncreen, and they have not updated their
regulations on it since the 90s. Because of this, when asked, I usually recommend getting products made in Europe, or Asia. I have experience with French, Korean and Japanese products so I will give a list of those, but I do know Australian products are great as well!
Higher SPF numbers offer slightly more protection but no sunscreen can block 100% of UVB rays. It’s also important to apply sunscreen correctly and reapply it every two hours, or more often if swimming or sweating, to ensure maximum effectiveness.

I know I keep saying this but I absolutely love when y’all visit me for a tattoo, but make it a tiny vacation as well!
